The first ice cream parlor opened in America in 1776. Today, there are hundreds from coast to coast. To enjoy a scoop of your favorite flavor, several local ice cream shops offer pick-up or delivery.
Our favorite neighborhood ice cream shops near our Cambridge apartments include:
Vince Petryk accidentally began his career in the ice cream industry. His first job after college was at an ice cream parlor. He worked his way up the ladder and opened J.P. Licks in 1981. The shop became an instant hit. It has won over 400 "Best Of" awards and serves tasty flavors for everyone. Choices include rum raisin, cookie dough, and maple walnut. JP Licks offers delivery through Uber Eats, Postmates, and more.
At Honeycomb Creamery, each scoop is different from the last. The ice cream is made in small batches with milk and heavy cream from Mapleline Farm. In the kitchen, the makers also create the toppings and waffle cones from scratch. Ice cream flavors include malted vanilla, salted caramel crunch, and golden milk (vegan). Place an online order for pickup.
A local favorite since 1976, The Ice Creamsmith welcomes customers from near and far. It opened after two unemployed neighbors saw a newspaper ad for equipment and the know-how to open an ice cream shop. They decided to take a chance. Soon, co-founder David Mabel and his wife ran the shop themselves. Today, their daughter and son-in-law carry on their tradition of offering small-batch ice cream made from the finest ingredients. Flavors include Bailey's Irish cream, chocolate chip, and oatmeal raisin. Both pints and quarts are available for pickup Tuesday through Sunday between 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
Before sampling a scoop of ice cream, enjoy some from a nearby restaurant. To call Luxe at Alewife home, contact us. We will show you firsthand all that our apartments in Cambridge have to offer.
